To conduct cold water safety training for home-schooled children in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.

David Wages and Angela Eastman-Aytes, Kodiak Island Burough School District, KACLAC program – $4,000.00

To incorporate boating and outdoor safety into an after-school program in the city of Kodiak.

David Wages, Kodiak Island Burough School District, Rural Schools – $4,000.00

For a water and outdoor safety education program at eight rural school sites on Kodiak Island.

Liz Mosenthin-Masi, Southeast Island School District, Thorne Bay – $3,439.00

To provide cold water safety and survival training for K - 12 students. Training will include 10-hour Onboard Emergency Drills courses for high school students and adults.

Michael Jones, Lake Otis Elementary School, Anchorage – $600.00

To conduct cold water safety training for children in grades 5 and 6.

Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation – $4,000.00

To fund one person from each village of Togiak, Twin Hills, Manokatak, Platinum and Good News Bay to attend an AMSEA Marine Safety Instructor Training course to be held in Togiak.

Karen Schramek, Stedman Elementary School, Petersburg - $3,271.15

To purchase equipment for cold water survival training for all 5th graders at Stedman Elementary School, and to fund Bridget Wittstock to attend an AMSEA Marine Safety Instructor Training course.

Jason Hymer, Norton Sound Health Corporation – $1,542.00

To allow Injury Prevention Coordinator Jason Hymer to attend AMSEA’s Marine Safety Instructor Training course in Seward, Alaska.

To provide cold water safety and survival training for K - 12 students in King Cove, Cold Bay, Nelson Lagoon and False Pass. Training will include 10-hour Onboard Emergency Drills courses for high school students.

2006 AMSEA Mini-Grants

To provide cold water survival training to all seventh graders at Homer Middle School.

Charles Pullock, Norton Sound Health Corporation– $4,000.00

To allow Prevention Coordinator Charles Pullock to attend AMSEA’s Marine Safety Instructor Training course in Seward, Alaska. Also, to provide safety training for school-aged children in the communities of Little Diomede, Gambell, Savoonga and Unalakleet.

Aleutians East Borough – $1,893.00

To allow Sand Point Swimming Pool manager Jason Bjornstad to attend AMSEA’s Marine Safety Instructor Training course in Seward, Alaska.

Earl Jeffrey, Hydaburg City School District – $800.00

To provide a 10-hour Onboard Emergency Drills course for Hydaburg High School Students.

Jennifer Culbertson, Alaska State Parks and Valent Maxwell, Kodiak Area Native Association - $2,937.00

To conduct safety training for children at schools in six villages and at various youth camps on Kodiak Island.

2005 AMSEA Mini-Grants

 

Ted L. Reynolds, Maniilaq Health Education/Injury Prevention Department - $2,575.00

To help fund a train-the-trainer workshop for Injury Prevention workers and commercial fishermen, and for those newly trained to work with children and fishermen in the community.

Michelle Woods, Lower Yukon School District - $5,000.00

To pay for an educator to complete AMSEA’s Marine Safety Instructor Training. This trainer will then create a marine safety educational “tub” and train 100 school-aged Natural Helpers in boating and water safety.

Susan Round, University of Alaska Southeast – Ketchikan Campus, Maritime Department - $5,000.00

To sponsor AMSEA Marine Safety Instructor Training at UAS-K with full tuition scholarships available for 10 individuals.

Jim Ferguson, Norton Sound Health Corporation - $3,000.00

To help provide marine safety instruction to children in Gambell and Savoonga, and to set up Kids Don’t Float PFD loan programs in villages throughout Norton Sound.
