AMSEA is conducting a Boating Without the Boys class in Sitka, Alaska. For women boaters or passengers who enjoy getting out on the water. This woman-focused course uses an inclusive definition of the word woman. We are welcoming and respectful of women including trans, gender non-binary, gender non-confirming, and any others who identify as women in a way that is of significance to them.
It is designed for new vessel operators, or women who spend time on the water but want basic skills in case they need to run the vessel unexpectedly. This one day course covers basic boating safety and may be tailored to the needs and desires of the group.
Topics in this class may include:
Float plans
Boating trip risk assessment
Reading the weather
Essential items for every boating trip
Handling an outboard engine malfunction
Retrieving someone who falls overboard
Tying knots
Basic anchoring skills
Docking skills
Cold water survival skills

How to make a proper Mayday call
Additional topics can be added depending upon the needs of your group.
