Outdoor Survival Camp 2017

This past Friday, we completed our week-long, children’s Outdoor Survival Camp. It was a pleasure to see the enthusiasm that youngsters bring to the camp activities and to watch them learn skills that will help to keep them safe in their outdoor adventures. Each camper received a booklet with photos from the camp. Click through the gallery above to see the captions describing some of the learning activities.

AMSEA’s Coral Pendell and Marian Allen, and Julia Tawney of the Sitka Conservation Society worked hard to make the camp a success. Thank you for a job well done!

Many others helped this past week and the preceding weeks. First and foremost, thank you to the Sitka Conservation Society for partnering with AMSEA to bring this camp to Sitka. We must also acknowledge the generous contribution of time and effort by instructors and volunteers, Eric Van Cise, Michael Laguire, Phyllis Hackett, Rick Petersen, Jamie Smith, Jolie Tulley, and Angie Bowers. In addition, we received support and assistance from the Sitka Fire Department, Absolute Tree Care, the Sitka Sportsman’s Association, Americorps, Jesuit Volunteer Corps, and the staff at Sitka’s Harrigan Centennial Hall. Thank you!

Finally, we want to extend a big thank you to our campers and their families for participating. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and sense of adventure made for a fun and exciting week!
