High School Students Get Drill Conductor Training

Jeff Pearson

AMSEA Instructor, Mike Morris, spent a cold, rainy, Tuesday afternoon in Sitka's Crescent Harbor this week. It was all part of Sitka High School teacher, Jeremy Strong's outdoor recreation class. As part of the class, students completed AMSEA's U.S. Coast Guard-accepted Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor training. We like to include in-the-water training in a drill conductor class, whenever possible. It gives mariners hands-on experience with immersion suits, PFDs, and life rafts. Many school districts in Alaska include AMSEA training in their curriculum. Contact Emma Edson at emma@amsea.org or call (907) 747-3287 if you would like to learn how you can bring AMSEA marine safety training to your school.
