Coast Guard Investigation Board Seeks Info on F/V Scandies Rose

Jeff Pearson

This past February, the U.S. Coast Guard convened a Marine Board of Investigation to investigate the December 31 sinking of the F/V Scandies Rose. That vessel disaster resulted in the loss of five lives.

National Fishermen's Kirk Moore explains that, "Marine boards of investigation collect evidence, establish facts, and present conclusions and recommendations in their reports to the Coast Guard commandant." As part of that investigation, the MIB seeks information related to:

  • Knowledge of the general condition of the SCANDIES ROSE

  • Former sailing experience onboard the SCANDIES ROSE

  • Experience with the crew of the SCANDIES ROSE

  • Weather between Chignik & Kodiak Dec 31, 2019

  • Communications (texts, pictures, telephone calls, etc.)

  • with crew between Dec 29-31, 2019

  • Any other information you think may be pertinent to the investigation.

If you have information to share the MIB, you can send it to: ScandiesRoseMBI@uscg.mil.
