How to Don an Immersion Suit

Jeff Pearson

Updated: Oct 12, 2022

You are seven times more likely to survive an abandon ship scenario if you are wearing an immersion suit. In an abandon ship emergency, you DON’T have time to read the manual. Don't worry, we have you covered with a new training video.

Practice this method to get into your suit in sixty seconds or less. In the pitch black, on an icy deck that is heeling over to starboard you want to rely on muscle memory to don your suit without having to think about the order of operations. Getting into your suit on the first try may give you the extra seconds that you need to improve your chances of a successful rescue. Do you store plastic bags in your suit to help slide your boots in, and does your PFD fit inside your zipped emersion suit? Know your personal suit and how to get into it reliably before you need it!
